Speaker: Club member Mary van Balgooy
Mary will discuss how the Zonta USA Caucus is recruiting clubs in cities along the Driving the Vote for Equality Tour to support the national push for Equal Rights Amendment recognition. She will begin with a brief overview of the original 1916 suffrage-era automobile drive that used visibility, public engagement, and local organizing to revive a stalled movement.
The presentation will then trace the long fight for passage and ratification of the ERA, highlighting why constitutional equality remains unfinished business more than a century after women won the vote. Finally, Mary will outline the current tour's goals and the practical ways Zonta clubs can step into leadership roles locally--supporting community events, engaging elected officials, amplifying media outreach, and contributing to a coordinated national effort to secure full constitutional equality for women.
