Celebrating 50 Years of Medical Scholarships for Women

March 2, 2016

Our Club was welcomed by The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences to celebrate 50 years of medical scholarships for women. Since 1965, through a bequest from Edith SeVille Coale, M.D., our Club has awarded over $1 million in scholarships to women attending area medical schools including The George Washington University (GW), Georgetown University (GU), Howard University (HU), and John Hopkins University (JH).

At this reception, we recognized donors to the Zonta Club of Washington Scholarship Fund and the Edith SeVille Coale, M.D. scholars. Over $7,000 was raised at this special event. Many past recipients of the award were not able to attend but sent messages and donations for the event. Some of these are noted in the event Program.

The Club extends its thank you to the GW School of Medicine and Health Services for hosting the reception and a special thank you to the organizers of the event, Committee Chairperson Dr. Janet Southby and Sandra Shaw.
